How to reset Excel 2016 to default settings

I changed some settings in Excel so that I treated percentages as decimals. it worked great for that one specific project, but now I can't remove this configuration, and all my columns across all projects past and current are having their values divided by hundred.

This is incredibly annoying, and is making Excel usable for me. I've tried reinstalling it and deleting the REGEDIT values for Excel, but still it persists.

Can somebody please help me fix my Excel?

There is an option on the Advanced tab of Options in Excel to Automatically insert a decimal point. Advanced edition option to insert decimal

I haven't tested if this affects display of previously saved workbooks but it does seem to affect all new numeric entries in all workbooks after it is checked.

Follow this :

  • Go into Control Panel / Programs and Features.
  • Right-click on your Microsoft Office version.
  • Choose Change
  • Choose Quick Repair and click Repair.
  • If that didn't work, do the same but choose Online Repair.
  • If nothing works, uninstall and reinstall Office.

These following small changes in Excel program shortcut link could allow you to easily reset Excel 2016 settings.

If Excel shortcut doesn't exist yet on your PC's desktop then create it like this.

Else you could also find it in folder C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs .

Once this shortcut created or founded then make a right click on it, select properties and in target field add the option /unregserver as follows:

for the 64-bit version of Office 2016:"C:\Program files\Microsoft Office\Office\Excel.exe" /unregserver

Or as follows for the 32-bit version of Office 2016:"C:\Program files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office\Excel.exe" /unregserver

That's all. Good luck
